H264WebCam can help you create a closed circuit video surveillance system. The program supports adding both local and IP cameras of different brands. Besides, it allows you to monitor up to 16 different channels, but this actually depends on the license you buy. There are various layouts available according to the number of active channels. Unfortunately, the interface looks somewhat outdated and some key features lie buried behind various windows.
For each of the channels, you can configure such parameters as video size and audio source. The captured signal can be streamed over the network, and, for this purpose, you can set different ports.
The tool makes it possible to record video in various formats, including AVI, MP4, MOV, FLV, SWF, ASF and WMF. Two types of video recording are possible. In this regard, you can schedule recording to start and finish at given times and dates. Moreover, recording can be started on a motion event. It is good that you can select sensitive screen regions, set active hours and adjust motion sensitivity, which is essential in preventing false positives. Unluckily, the tool does not support as many types of alerts as other similar tools. It is also too bad that face recognition has not been implemented either.
The product is quite strong in terms of protection. For example, it allows using individual passwords to access or stream video signals. Also, it lets you create various users with either administrative or standard clearance level.
All in all, despite some limitations, H264WebCam seems to be a good video surveillance solution. The product is sold in various licenses. There is even a free version supporting up to four channels; yet, it does not allow encoding or recording. Other versions are Standard, Pro and Deluxe, differing on the numbers of channels available. Finally, if you want the product without limitations of any kind, then you should check its Exalted version.
